How to clean my Louis Vuitton?
-
Materials & Characteristics
Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram and Damier bags are crafted from PVC coated canvas with natural, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather (vachetta) and metal hardware.
- Coated Canvas (PVC): durable and water repellent, but sensitive to harsh cleaners and abrasion.
- Vachetta Leather: untreated, vegetable tanned leather that naturally darkens over time.
- Hardware: brass or gold-tone metal that can tarnish with wear.
Avoid: household cleaners, alcohol wipes, or baby products these can strip coatings or stain the leather.
2. Care Routine
Step 1 - Cleaning (Canvas & Textile)
Use Saphir Médaille d’Or Foam Cleaner (200 ml) for coated canvas and textile materials. Apply the foam evenly with a soft sponge or brush, working in gentle circular motions to lift dirt and residue. Wipe away any excess with a damp cloth, then allow the surface to air dry completely.
Step 2 – Condition the outside (Coated Fabric / Leather Areas)
Apply Saphir Médaille d’Or Coated Fabric Lotion to coated fabric or smooth leather parts to maintain their flexibility and appearance. Use a thin even layer is sufficient. Let it absorb fully, then gently buff with a soft cloth for a refined finish.
Step 3 – Leather treatment (Vachetta Leather)
For untreated vachetta leather trims, use Saphir Médaille d’Or Vegetable Tanned Leather Crème (75 ml). Apply a very light layer to keep the leather supple without darkening its natural tone. Allow the crème to absorb, then buff gently with a clean, soft cloth.
Step 4 – Protection (optional)
Finish with Saphir Médaille d’Or Super Invulner Spray for water and stain protection.
Spray evenly from a distance of around 20 cm and allow to dry fully before handling or storing.
